Apartment, Olcavar, Shankill.
A newly built apartment in a fabulous complex. The client had decided for a change. He invested in a new apartment and came accross the daunting task of doing a fit out so he got in touch. The canvas was blank and so there was space for a fresh approach & new ideas to be implemented in the space. This was an excellent project that appeared in the irish version of House & homes September 2007.
The hallway was floored with an oil-stained matt oak. We re-visted the original lighting scheme to create a more atmospheric and functional system & added a bespoke wall mirror to draw the eye along the corridor from the entrance. An interesting wall paper was used on just one section – that being the partition wall of the guest bathroom to add interest & a bit of quirkiness.
In the master bedroom we used a fabric wall paper that gives great texture & a sensation of comfort, along with the beautiful soft wool carpet combined again, with a new lighting scheme to control the enviroment. Silk curtains and throw bring the scheme further to a high level of luxury.
The guest bedroom worked on a different brief – that being a bright modern room for our clients family. Horizontal lines, fresh colours and oak furniture give this room a wonderful contemporary feel.
For the living room/ dining area I had to utilise the space as best as possible, it also has an adjoing kitchen. We wanted to divide the spaces visually whilst keeping the flow & feel of space throughout the room. This was achieved by using an 'L' shaped couch to to define the lving area, a fold-away dining table to be stored when not in use along with a feature wall of a forest to add interest from the living section perspective & an open thread bookshelf to seperate the kitchen from the living space. Natural earthy colours were used here to create a relaxing enviroment.
The kitchen brief was to utilise what existed in a better way. We installed a new breakfast bar with seating & lighting above. We also Installed streamlined blinds to draw the eye into the kitchen and to give a feel of perspective.
An additional touch was to utilise the small cloak room & install a wine rack designed by Mr. D. Carroll.
